These two paintings were created by the guests that came to the Opið Hús, a monthly event at the NES Artist Residency for the artists to share what they worked on. I had created two interactive components to illustrate my process—children’s museum style—in creating “Rock Garden” and “Ptarmigan and Butterfly” (see previous blog). Two girls—sisters—fervently scrubbed paint off of a rock I had placed on a piece of paper cut to match the diameter of a small table. Once I returned home I happened to have the perfect frame for it.
The other painting is a collective creation by six adults, and the two girls. Each added paint to a rock, then with a spray bottle in hand they climbed a stepladder to become rainmakers.
Seed an idea, and reap a harvest beyond one’s own imagination.
